Japan consists of several historical sites that are open to the public. Prominent among them is The Hiroshima Peace Memorial, a tribute to the lives lost due to the bombing during World War II. The Kiyomizu-dera Buddhist temple in Eastern Kyoto is another. Dating back to 8th century, the temple has a waterfall fed from a river outside that maintains the structure in harmony with nature.

The Kinkaku-ji or the Temple of the Golden Pavilion at Kyoto
is a great tourist attraction. Built in the late 14th century this imposing structure reflects a fine balance and harmony between structure and its surroundings. Other prominent sites include the Himeji Castle, a fine example of Japanese castle architecture and The Todaiji Temple at Nara, the world’s largest wooden building and home to the world’s largest bronze Buddha statue. Surrounded by sprawling gardens and wildlife, the Kegon school of Buddhism is located here.
